Updated: Jul 14
Hello, golf ! I'm Coach Erik Schjolberg of EJS Golf Academy, located in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Over the years, I've had the privilege to work with a broad range of golfers, helping them elevate their game and achieve their Golf Goals. Today, I'm excited to share with you five of my top drills to stop hitting the golf ball fat. These drills have been instrumental in the Golf Swing Transformation of countless students.
wwww Before we dive into these drills, let me introduce you to my academy's website, EJSGolf.com. You'll find a plethora of resources there, from instructional content to golf gear recommendations. We take pride in being your one-stop destination for all things golf-related, from GolfTraining to GolfTechnique.
Stop Chunking Drills
Now, let's jump right into these drills that are all designed to help you stop hitting the golf ball fat and chunking it! 1. The Divot Drill This is one of my personal favorites. The Divot Drill is designed to improve your ball striking consistency. Here's how it works: Place a tee in the ground and then position your ball directly in front of the tee. As you swing, try to hit the tee after striking the ball. This will ensure that you hit the ball first, followed by the turf, which is the key to avoiding fat shots. Practice this drill regularly and you'll soon notice significant #GolfImprovement.
2. The Towel Drill For this drill, all you need is a small towel. Place the towel about 4-5 inches behind the ball. The goal is to hit the ball without disturbing the towel. This drill not only helps with hitting fat shots but also improves your overall #GolfTechnique.
3. The Takeaway Drill A good takeaway is key to a successful golf swing. The Takeaway Mastery drill will help you establish a consistent and controlled takeaway. Start by slowly pulling the club back, ensuring it stays low to the ground and in line with the target for as long as possible. Use a mirror to help visualize and correct your movements. Remember, the Dynamic Takeaway is the first step to a successful swing.
4. The Shadow Drill The Shadow Drill is all about self-awareness. On a sunny day, position yourself so that your shadow is directly in front of you. As you swing, pay attention to your shadow. If you're dipping or moving excessively during your swing, it will be easily noticeable. This instant feedback will help you understand and correct your movements, leading to improved Golf Performance.
5. The Ball Position Drill Lastly, ensure your ball is in the correct position for each club. With longer clubs, the ball should be closer to your lead foot, and with shorter clubs, it should be more centered. Incorrect ball position often leads to fat shots. The Ball Position Drill will help you find the optimal position for each club, leading to consistent and clean strikes. Now that you're equipped with these drills, I encourage you to put them into practice. The path to Golf Success is paved with consistent and focused effort. Remember, at EJS Golf Academy, we're always here to support your golf journey. In addition to these drills, the right gear can also make a significant difference in your performance.
